While the clock ticks on Ontario’s Endangered Species Act review

Endangered Golden Eagle

The Ontario government is currently undertaking a 10-year review of the Endangered Species Act, a review that environmentalists and opposition politicians fear could open the door to weakened protections and development of key habitats.

The public comment period is now over and while we await the government’s release of its proposed amendments Ontario Nature is reaching out to political leaders and MPPs to ensure like voices are heard.

Our club joined other kindred organizations supporting a letter that Ontario Nature emailed to all Ontario MPPs on March 19 then followed up with hard copies. The letter urges MPPS “to uphold the spirit and intent of the ESA as well as its focus on demonstrable benefit to species, and to ensure that it is not weakened during the ongoing review.”
