Welcome to the Macnamara Field Naturalists’ Club

In 1984 a group of like-minded naturalists in the Lower Ottawa Valley formed this club to share their knowledge and love of nature. Following in the footsteps of Charles Macnamara, a naturalist and photographer who lived in Arnprior from 1881 to 1944, our club has explored, documented and enjoyed the rich natural history of our area.

Over the years club members have been active in the fields, forests and waterways and have contributed time and effort to local natural treasures. Gillies Grove, a stand of old-growth forest in the heart of Arnprior, and the Macnamara Nature Trail in the Nopiming game preserve, both owe their existence to club members.

Currently large numbers of Baskettails are flying in our region.

We meet at 7:00 p.m. on the first Wednesday of every month except July and August at the Arnprior Curling Club, 15 Galvin St, Arnprior.

Expert speakers share their knowledge and take us in easy steps into their special worlds. Admission is free for members and $5 for guests. Field trips throughout the year investigate everything from geology, to birds in migration, to rare orchids. We are pleased to share our knowledge and experience with you. Welcome to our club and to our website.
