The Burnt Lands alvar, a globally rare habitat in west Ottawa, is under attack. To raise the awareness of this unique “barren” land and its unusual floral beauties, Brian Carson, our resident plant explorer, will conduct a number of late spring tours on Sunday, June 14. There will be hikes at 8am, 10am, 1pm and 3pm. The 1pm hike is full.
We will meet on Golden Line Road just south of March Road (the road to Almonte) beside the Burnt Lands park. There is roadside parking.
Bring your camera, insect repellant … Long pants and rubber boots are recommended as we will be traipsing through alvar meadows, woods, wetlands and the 1999 burn site.
