July 15, 2024 – Odonates at Morris Island with Art Goldsmith

On July 15, seven hearty (read “crazy”) souls joined Art Goldsmith at Morris Island for a very hot and steamy two-hour outing to Morris Island to search out Odonates.  Ritchie Lawrence said they were thankful for the breeze, which kept the bugs away.

According to Janet Mason “The highlight for Art was a sighting of the Blue Dasher (photo below), a southern species that has been slowly moving north. Art has been looking for one at MiCA for 10 years.”

Other highlights according to Janet were “a curious beaver, mating Widow Skimmers. (The female dipped her tail into the water right after to lay eggs), and a great group of spotters!”  Of course, Janet, our participants are always the greatest!

Thank you to Janet Mason and Ritchie Lawrence for the photos and a huge thank you to Art for leading the outing!
