On the trail of Macnamara

You are walking in the footsteps of Charles Macnamara (1870-1944) who worked as Accountant and Secretary-Treasurer for the McLachlin Lumber Company. His spectacular photographs captured the essence of the early Canadian logging industry, as well as the flora and fauna of the Arnprior area, especially here between his Daniel Street home and Marshall Bay cottage.

Macnamara’s interests spanned all aspects of Nature. In 1913 he started the Arnprior Christmas Bird Count continuing today as the Pakenham-Arnprior CBC.  He wrote and illustrated unpublished books on orchids and beavers. He studied minute soil animals, discovering six new Springtail species one of which bears his name.
