July 7, 2024 – Joint OFNC & MFNC Murphy’s Point Outing with Gillian Mastromatteo and Derek Dunnett

Third time was a charm for the special joint field trip for members of Ottawa Field Naturalists’ Club and MFNC to Murphy’s Point with Gillian Mastromatteo and Derek Dunnett.

Eleven of us made it out this past Sunday (July 7th). While the morning was scheduled for birds and the afternoon for dragons (odonata), we saw and heard plenty of both all day. Some of our targets including Elphin Skimmer dragonfly, the Golden-winged and Blue-winged Warblers were not seen or heard, but we did hear the Acadian Flycatcher and also saw the Yellow-throated Vireo.

We saw 22 species of odonata and more than 30 species of birds with a real bonus, due to all the recent rain, plenty of fungi to enthrall our budding mycologist, Kate.
