Janet Mason awarded Order of Ottawa; Michael Runtz finalist in national Nature Inspiration Awards

Former MFNC vice-president Janet Mason was instrumental in bringing about our Macnamara Trail Extension. On November 3, 2022, she was one of 15 City of Ottawa residents inducted into the prestigious Order of Ottawa in a ceremony at City Hall.  Noted in West Carleton online, “Mason, an engineer by trade, volunteers her time with several not-for-profit organizations with roots in environmental conservation, protection and awareness, often in the rural west Ottawa area.”

Accolades were also directed last month to Michael Runtz, a finalist in the national Nature Inspiration Awards that recognize individuals and organizations whose specific projects encourage Canadians to take an interest in natural history, create links with nature and contribute to its preservation. The winner was Dr. Melissa Lem, Vancouver, B.C.: environmental physician and leader for development of prescriptions-for-nature programs
