During the 2009 and 2010 seasons the Eastern Ontario Model Forest (EOMF) conducted an Atlas project for amphibians and reptiles (EOMF Herpetofaunal Atlas ) covering the 5 counties (Leeds & Grenville; Lanark; Prescott & Russell; Ottawa; and Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry) comprising the EOMF. As well, Ontario Nature partnered with the EOMF and NHIC to create a new Ontario Herpetofaunal Atlas Program. With the aid of landowners, individuals and naturalist clubs providing sightings records the Atlas catalogued the general and local distributions of the more than 50 species of frogs, toads, salamanders, newts, turtles, skinks and snakes known to be resident in Ontario.
The Macnamara Field Naturalist Club Contribution
The Macnamara Field Naturalist Club (MFNC) participated in the Atlas. From the data submitted to the MFNC Atlas co-ordinator (atlascoordinator@mfnc.ca) by its club members, the MFNC will create a Renfrew County specific count from the sightings forwarded to the EOMF Atlas project and the Ontario Nature Atlas Project.
