February Snowshoe and Social

Ample snow in early February made us hopeful that we would be able to snowshoe in Fitzroy Park but rain dampened that hope.  We were, however, able to walk the trails quite comfortably in our winter boots. Karen Krueger led us through hard-packed trails where most of us had never been before and left us feeling that we had to return, especially to check it out in different seasons. Things were pretty quiet on the bird front but we enjoyed examining the trees, lichens, snow fleas, tracks and any thing else which caught our fancy.  Fortunately John and Beth McEwen were there to answer the geology questions! The park has interesting geology and a beautiful frozen waterfall at this time of year.

We welcomed new people to MFNC and had a chance to chat back at Karen’s over hot drinks and snacks. Many thanks to Karen for hosting us!
