Dr. Allyson Brady is an assistant professor in the department of science at Carleton University.  Her current research in microbial ecology aims to understand the interaction of biology and the Earth, with an emphasis on microbial environments with relevance to biotechnology and astrobiology. Dr. Brady recently gave an engaging presentation to MFNC members about stromatolites and her work with the astronauts on the Mars mission.  While this look at actual stromatolites will be fairly short, that area of the river is certainly scenic and early arrivals can also spend time looking for migrating birds (shorebirds, gulls, etc.)  Additionally, Dr. Brady notes that the newly renovated Westboro sites on the Ottawa side of the river also has an exposure with an information sign. 

For the main sites, there is a paved bike path that leads to the area but the actual stromatolites are accessed via a short path that does require walking over some rocks. Not too challenging but if you have mobility concerns you may want to bring a walking stick.  

The site is exposed (no trees to offer shade), so mid-afternoon might get a bit hot. There is at least one picnic table that is shaded in the parking lot but hats, sunscreen, water etc. especially if the weather is hot is recommended.   Rubber boots or water shoes may also be useful.
