Can you tell the different between a moth and a butterfly? Don’t flutter, this month’s speaker will guide you through the differences!
Ken will also talk about the amazing life cycle of butterflies and the various species that you can spot in our local area.
This month’s speaker has been interested in the natural world as far back as he can remember and worked as a botanist for most of his professional life.
In his words “I am fascinated by almost everything so, as I often say, I am a lousy specialist. I am a fairly serious birder but am also very interested in botany and entomology, especially butterflies and dragonflies. I enjoy having broader interests; when the birds get quiet later in the morning, the insects become active and the plants are always available at any time of day, so I’m never bored!”
Ken leads walks and does presentations for many organizations and has helped with bio-blitzes as well as bird and insect counts across eastern Ontario. He loves sharing the natural world with people.
He is currently working as a volunteer on the third Ontario Breeding Bird Atlas, having worked on the previous two atlases in the early 1980’s and early 2000’s.
