Event Details

Join Erik and a group of plant enthusiasts as they explore Fitzroy Provincial Park off season for a quiet and peaceful walk, examining the woody plants that call the park home. Although the leaves will be mostly fallen, these plants still exhibit features that make identification achievable (in many cases, easier!). Depending on how far we wander, we may even see some rare shrubs and trees to the region. Input from the group is always encouraged. Erik will also be keeping an eBird checklist of the birds we encounter on our walk and any other notable sightings will be examined.
Erik Pohanka is a biologist by trade and by hobby. One of his many interests of the natural world is trees and shrubs. Trained on identification through schooling and in field experience, Erik is always looking high up in the canopies or leaning branches of shrubs up to his face to examine the subtle, yet myriad features that separate the tallest pine from the lowest blueberry.
