Description: Nestled between Clayton Lake and Carleton Place lies the Marble Woodlands. This property was generously donated to the Mississippi Madawaska Land Trust to protect in perpetuity. Named after the underlying bedrock consisting of marble overlain with shallow alkaline soil, the property features a variety of habitats that support an impressive diversity of species, including several Species at Risk. In this light walk, we’ll be recording any breeding evidence of birds to contribute to the final year of the Ontario Breeding Bird Atlas. However, we will also be taking a look at any interesting sightings of flora and fauna along the way and recording any Species at Risk we may encounter. Expertise and input from participants is always encouraged.

Disclaimers: The trail is fairly level with only light inclines in certain areas. Sturdy shoes, water, and binoculars are encouraged as well. Dress for the weather and potential biting insects. In the event of inclement weather, the trip will be cancelled. Maximum of 15 participants. The Mississippi Madawaska Land Trust asks that all vehicles park in the designated parking lot and refrain from parking on the road.  Please carpool if you can.
