On January 16, 15 Macnamarans, along with our enthusiastic and excellent leader, Jon Ruddy, ventured around Arnprior and Pakenham looking for birds of prey. We were not to be disappointed. Our first stop produced a Northern Shrike (the first of the winter for this very happy writer!) and a Bald Eagle. Along the way we saw 3 Red-tailed Hawks and a Snowy Owl, bringing our birds of prey total to 4 species. We also found a huge flock of Snow Buntings and a small flock of Horned Larks. Our species total was 15, not bad for an afternoon in winter.
After the outing, 10 of us gathered at PJ’s for dinner and a review of our bird lists. Many thanks to Jon for a great afternoon of birding and to Ian for the beautiful pictures below.
