Barron Canyon Outing February 16, 2020

On February 16, 2020 a group of 26 members (and hopefully one prospective new member) of MFNC enjoyed a marvellous winter outing to Algonquin Park’s Barron Canyon and Lake Travers led by Jeff and Angela Skevington.
The weather, while sometimes a bit squally (is that a word?) was mild, often sunny and had the birds in a very cooperative mood (Canada Jay, Pine Siskin, Purple Finch, Golden Crowned Kinglet, Red and White-Winged Crossbills, Pileated Woodpecker, Ruffed Grouse to name a few). The Spruce Grouse however were elusive (despite the mad snowshoe chase) as were the mammals (wolf, otter, weasel) whose tracks were spotted along the way.
The highlight of the trip of course was the magnificent view from the top of the canyon while enjoying our lunch. A return trip in warm weather for a lush green view with perhaps some breeding Peregrine Falcons hunting the canyon would be a lovely complement.

Thanks again Jeff and Angela.
